Adventure travel for women 40+ doesn’t have to mean extreme. For most of the women I help, it means trips that require more planning, more physical preparation, or more comfort with the unknown than a standard hotel-and-restaurant vacation. Hiking trips, wildlife trips, off-grid trips, multi-day treks all are better with some peace of mind.
These adventure travel guides come from real trips I’ve taken (often with adventure tour operators like Intrepid): Tour du Mont Blanc with a small group, one week in the Galapagos, sailing the Croatian Islands with my mom, chasing the Northern Lights in Iceland, going on safari in Tanzania, visiting Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley in Peru, and working out at BodyHoliday St. Lucia for the wellness-adventure crossover.
You’ll find detailed trip reports with the realistic-for-women-40+ version: pace, gear, physical preparation, what the operators did well, and what I’d warn a friend about before signing up.
Best for: women planning their first big adventure trip, travelers comparing operators or destinations, and anyone considering a bucket-list trip and wanting to know what it’s actually like.
Most adventure trips are worth booking with an advisor or operator. Want help finding the right fit?
