Thinking about traveling with a group but not sure where to start? Everything below is what I’ve learned about planning and joining group trips over the years. If you’d rather skip the planning and just come with me, I host a few small group trips of my own. See what’s coming up →
Organized group travel is one of the easier ways to do trips that would be intimidating to do solo. Multi-day hikes, off-grid destinations, and complex multi-country itineraries are prime for organized groups. But group travel also comes with tradeoffs that most operator websites won’t tell you about. The pace, group dynamics, what’s included and what isn’t, and whether the trip actually delivers on what was promised.
These group travel reviews come from real trips I’ve taken with operators including Intrepid Travel. You’ll find detailed trip reports on hiking, kayaking, and traversing across the world. From the Tour du Mont Blanc, the Galapagos Islands, Machu Picchu and Peru, to the Amalfi Coast (paired with my solo time in Naples and Sorrento), and more.
Pieces here cover what to expect from a small-group adventure tour, the trip-by-trip pros and cons, and the honest take on whether each one was worth it for a woman in her 40s or 50s.
Best for: women considering their first small-group tour, anyone evaluating a specific tour operator, and travelers wanting honest reviews from someone who has actually done these trips.
